Social Media and Democracy: A Dangerous Future

Social media is now an obvious arena for social debate in a democratic society. But in recent years, the discussion about the role of social media has mostly come to be about problems and risks: deepfakes, troll factories, information influence campaigns, online hatred, and extremist radicalization are some examples of things we worry about. But what does research say about how worried we should be, and what can we expect from the future?

In this lecture, Nils Gustafsson summarizes the current state of research and gives some tips on how to think for yourself as a user of social media.
