Guided tour of the exhibition I am a Camera – Jan Troell & the Photograph

The exhibition features Jan Troell's cameras and hundreds of photographs from both private and cinematic work. Although the creative place Smygehamn outside Trelleborg has been the base for the creation, the camera has moved over large parts of the world. Here are pictures from nine decades where we meet people like Max von Sydow, Mia Farrow, Charlie Chaplin, John Huston, Liv Ullmann, Monica Zetterlund, Georg Oddner, Ingmar Bergman and Allan Edwall, side by side with family, everyday moments, nature studies and landscapes close to home.

The iconic and the private exist at the same time, without hierarchies. "Photography has always been important," says Jan. "Even when I was writing scripts, if I got stuck, I could look up a photo book at random. In the picture that emerged, there was often the solution. When you were forced to start from that particular image, the idea began to move on."
